How would you like to go cruising on Saigon Rd?  Or how about Al-Salam Pkwy?  Brandon Todd was looking into this topic yesterday and indeed the Arlington city staff will be reviewing a proposal to see how costly the changes would be.  Here's more from Brandon:

The idea is to sart off with a street sign "topper" and let homeowners get used to the new name, then eventually the name would change. It would need support from 80-percent of the homeowners on that street to get the name changed.  There's no information yet as to what streets would be renamed with one exception.  The name Saigon could replace Arkansas, from Center to HWY 360.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Cesar Chavez would be a couple of other name change possibilities.  The city council may vote on it in the next month or two.

Why all the sudden rush to make changes to street names ? It seems to be taking up more and more news time lately,on something that should be a non-issue.
Has anyone considered the cost of making those changes ? Not only with street signs, but in business cards, mailing labels, advertising, drivers licenses and the list goes on.
If name chages have to be made whats wrong with good old american names, heros of war etc ? This is afterall Texas, which last time I checked was still within US borders. We are bending down enough to make illegals feel more at home, and giving in to the hispanic community every time they whine about being treated fairly. lets not bend completely over and let them continue to gain power in a community where tax paying citizens should have the final say. And before someone gets all blown out about this..I said ILLEGALS...not law abiding, tax paying hispanic citizens.

Welcome to the chopper zone! If you're new to the area let me introduce myself. My job for FOX 4: Be the eyes that guide you to the traffic troubles around the Metroplex! I'm a Texan through and through--born in Austin, raised in North Texas with a degree from TCU. My wife and I have been married for 12 years and we have 2 kids. I love playing golf and watching all sports. I also like to sing and play guitar. My secret goal? Someday I'd love to build my own golf course....but having the ability to retire on one would be great too! If there's anything I can do to help you plan routes through this busy part of Texas please let me know and as always: have a "Good Day!"
